Amadou et Mariam: Sons du Mali is a powerful feature-length documentary that follows the legendary blind African duo Amadou & Mariam as they work on their final studio album together. More than a behind-the-scenes portrait, the film traces the roots of their music back to childhood memories, the sounds of Mali, and the deep bond they share as partners in life and art.

Amadou & Mariam tell their story
Amadou & Mariam are a Grammy-nominated blind musical duo from Mali whose blend of traditional West African sounds with rock, blues and pop brought them international fame and made them one of Africa’s most successful musical acts.

Filmed between 2021 and 2023 across Mali, France, and Spain, the documentary is directed by Canadian filmmaker Ryan Marley and selected for the FIPADOC. Rather than a conventional documentary, Sons du Mali unfolds like an epic journey—one where nothing is staged except the music itself. The result is an intimate, unfiltered look at Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia’s extraordinary path from local musicians to global icons.

At its heart, the film is a celebration of love, resilience, and creative partnership. Through blues, rock, pop, groove, and afro-beat, Sons du Mali becomes a universal story about hope, connection, and seeing the world with the heart.

Colour and picture finishing for the film were completed by Delgaty Picture Post, supporting the visual language of this deeply human and emotionally resonant story.
